Johnson signs with Titans

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson has ended his holdout, signing a four-year deal worth $53 million with the team.

Johnson, who was under contract at the time, was unhappy with his deal and threatening an indefinite holdout.

The Titans said they were willing to pay him top running back money, but Johnson wanted to be compensated like the top players in the game.

In the end, it seems like both sides ended up giving a little bit to get the deal done. ( Read More…)

Titans sign Hasselbeck

The Tennessee Titans have made a move to solidify the quarterback position by signing Matt Hasselbeck to a contract.

The veteran will take over for Vince Young and Kerry Collins, both of whom are no longer with the team.

The Titans released Young, tired of his childish antics, while Collins surprisingly opted to retire rather than fight for the starting job in 2011.

Hasselbeck gives the Titans a quarterback to lead them until rookie Jake Locker is ready to take over. ( Read More…)

Titans fire Cecil

The Tennessee Titans have fired defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil, who has struggled in taking over for Jim Schwartz.

Of course, you could also blame some of the defensive struggles on the loss of Albert Haynesworth.

It also doesn’t help when the offense takes a step back, forcing the defense to spend a lot more time on the field.

Also, with head coach Jeff Fisher returning after a disappointing season, someone needed to take the fall. ( Read More…)

Young will not return to Titans

The Tennessee Titans have decided they will either trade or release quarterback Vince Young before next season.

It’s an interesting decision because it essentially means that ownership has chosen Jeff Fisher over Young.

However, Bud Adams said the two are separate issues and he has not yet made a decision on Fisher.

Young and Fisher have had their share of battles over the past few years, and it seems like the latest confrontation was the last straw. ( Read More…)

Titans roll past Texans, 31-17

The host Tennessee Titans built off last week’s game with a 31-17 win over the Houston Texans.

Running back Chris Johnson continued his recent resurgence, running for 130 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Kerry Collins took advantage of a poor Texans secondary in the first half to help build a big lead.

The veteran Collins finished the day with 237 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception. ( Read More…)

Titans can’t catch Colts, 30-28

The Tennessee Titans dug themselves a big hole and couldn’t get all the way out in a 30-28 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

The Titans fell behind by three touchdowns in the first half before they were able to find the end zone.

The good news is that the offense, after struggling so much the past few weeks, finally got back on track.

Quarterback Kerry Collins shook off some of the rust and benefitted from the return of wideout Kenny Britt. ( Read More…)

Titans fall to Redskins, 19-16

The Tennessee Titans saw their playoff hopes take a hit in a 19-16 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins.

During the course of the game, the Titans lost starting quarterback Vince Young to a thumb injury, forcing third-stringer Rusty Smith into action.

Young tried to return to the game, but head coach Jeff Fisher decided he could not throw the ball accurately and would stick with Smith.

The Titans eventually self-destructed in overtime, getting called for several personal foul penalties that put the Redskins in position for the game-winning field goal. ( Read More…)

Titans rally past Eagles, 37-19

The Tennessee Titans rallied back from a second half deficit to fly past the Philadelphia Eagles, 37-19.

The Titans, who were without starting quarterback Vince Young, got a big day from veteran Kerry Collins.

Collins threw for almost 300 yards and three touchdowns to lead the second-half comeback effort for the Titans.

Despite not playing in the first quarter, wide receiver Kenny Britt finished with 225 yards and three touchdowns. ( Read More…)

Titans get past Cowboys, 34-27

The Tennessee Titans made enough plays to hang on for a 34-27 win over the host Dallas Cowboys.

Running back Chris Johnson finally got back on track with 19 carries for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson was fairly quiet in the first half, but Vince Young’s ability to stretch the field eventually opened things up for the fleet-footed runner.

The defense intercepted Tony Romo three times, including on the Cowboys’ final drive to put the game away. ( Read More…)

Titans fall to Broncos, 26-20

The host Tennessee Titans couldn’t slow down Denver’s passing attack in a 26-20 loss to the Broncos.

Tennessee’s normally strong pass defense surrendered over 350 yards through the air to Kyle Orton and Co.

Even more alarming is Tennessee’s struggles with the running attack against a poor Denver run defense.

Running back Chris Johnson finished with just 53 yards rushing on 19 carries and did not score a touchdown. ( Read More…)
